How to Prepare for Taking your Licensing Exam

You want to become a contractor. Now what? The following information is to help you through the necessary steps in order to assure a smooth transition as you become a licensed contractor in any trade.

First, are you becoming licensed with the correct license? Besides the trade you will need to decide if you will be preforming residential only, commercial only, or residential and commercial, restricted or unrestricted, etc.  The value of the projects you plan to build both per project and total for the year and the size of the project will help you determine many licenses.

Second are you qualified to obtain your license? Each state has their own requirements that must be met prior to being licensed. Such as years of experience, good credit scores, minimum net worth, no judgments, etc.

Third; where do you go to apply for the exam? Some states require you to apply to take the exam you will need to contact the testing agency to see if you need to apply first or if you can just schedule the exam.

You can find answers to these questions and links to the states websites at http://www.contractor-licensing.com/state-license.html  here you can check which license will best fit you.

Fourth you will need to study for your exam and that requires the correct study material. Many states have open book exams so you will want to obtain all the study material they will be testing over to assure you have all the resources needed when you sit to take your exam. Also, you may tab your study material with permanent tabs, these are tabs that cannot be removed without tearing your page. You may also highlight your study material; you MAY NOT write in your study material with pen or pencil. If there is any writing or if the tabs can be removed they will not let you take the study material into the testing facility. In preparation for your exam we offer Exam Review for many trades. This exam review covers each book which you will be tested over offering highlighting guides, showing you where to tab and highlight your study material and practice tests, these tests generate new questions each time you log in to the course allowing you to see over 300 questions which will simulate the testing process and allow you to feel comfortable. You can find links to your states exam study material at: http://www.contractor-licensing.com/component/com_virtuemart/Itemid,100013/view,category/virtuemart_category_id,1/

You will be required to submit an application to the state licensing board prior to receiving your license. Each application will require you to provide various information to verify you are qualified to receive your license. Submitting your application for your state license can be a time consuming process. If there are errors, it can be rejected by the state and you will have to make the appropriate changes and resubmit. This is where At Home Prep can assist you by saving you time and money. With our years of experience, we can quickly and accurately submit your application to your state. Our Application Processing is a full service program.

Why Take the @Home Prep Texas Electrician Continuing Education Course?

TX Electrical CEU (4 Hours)

All online courses are different.  Every company writes their own material and presents it differently.  Our course is:

  1. Professionally written. We cover the codebook but our professionals write the commentary.   We know you want to understand the latest rules and concepts.  The @Home Prep Texas Electrician Continuing Education course presents material relevant to you written by professionals.
  2. Fully narrated by a professional reader. When you are listening to a course for four hours, we feel you deserve a professional reader and we think you absorb the material better by both hearing and seeing the material.
  3. The course contains review questions after each chapter to help you know if you comprehended the material (this is not a graded test).  You care about your job and we want to make sure you understand the material presented.  If you want, you can go back and review any chapters as many times as you like.
  4. Website is easy to navigate.  You are an electrician and not a computer geek. This site is straightforward.
  5. When everything goes right, all companies look good.  What if you have a glitch on your computer, we are here to help.  We are available by phone from 8AM EST to 8PM Monday – Friday and 11AM to 3PM Saturdays.   Email support is available outside those hours as well.
  6. The @Home Prep Texas Electrician Continuing Education course is State approved.  We automatically notify Texas the next business day after you complete the course.  You can renew your license quickly.
  7. PRICE – even though we believe our course is superior to other courses, we still beat their price.  If you find a course less expensive (even if the course is NOT as good as our course), let us know and we will beat their price by 10%.

Texas electricians work hard to get their license and you take pride in your work.  We know you have seen those electrical cob jobs done by “a friend” and wondered “how has this not caused an electrical fire”?  You know the work.  Running extension cords through walls or splicing Romex with loose wire nuts gobbed in electric tape thrown in the wall.  It may look good from the outside, but what a fire hazard.  @ Home Prep respects you as a professional.  We want you to be your best and we want this course to help you do just that.

Now, we have a deal for you.  Send us a photo of you at work with a testimonial about our course (send to This email address is being protected from spambots. I   decided to use @Home Prep online training in order to complete my California Electrical Recertification requirement. While I initially selected them because of their Satisfaction and Price Match Guarantees, I realized very quickly that their training was first class. Their website was easy to navigate and they provided me all the tools I needed to complete this very stressful task. All in all, they helped make this a positive experience. I would recommend @Home Prep to people who need their California Electrical Training Certification.
