Requirements To Complete

About This License

Installation, repair, maintenance, and extension of any plumbing system, including drains, waste, sanitary vents, water supply, fixtures, and indirect wastes.

Requirements to Obtaining Your License

  • Four years in an approved apprenticeship program
  • Four years (6,400 hours) plumbing work experience
  • Four years plumbing work under the direction of a licensed plumbing contractor

Applying For Your License

The costs are $50 to apply for the contractor exam and $25 for the journeyman exam. The license itself will cost $50 to $100 for the contractor and $15 to $30 for the journeyman depending on whether you get it in an even or odd numbered year. Either license is good for two years.

Indiana also has a Plumbers Recovery Fund which may require you to pay a small fee when you get the license.

Exam Details

  • 90 Questions – Three-hour time limit
  • 70% Correct Required to Pass
  • Exam fee of $138 for Contractors, $90 for Journeyman
  • Topics include – general requirements, fixtures, water heaters, water supply and distribution, sanitary drainage, vents, developed length/isometrics, business and law.
