Requirements To Obtain a Arizona General Contractor License - Commercial, Residential, (B-1, KB-1)

Obtaining an Arizona contractor license ensures you operate work legally and avoid potential penalties or legal issues. It can also open the door to a wider range of job opportunities, including government contracts. Arizona Commercial General Contractors may engage in work to construct, alter, and repair in connection with any structure for the support, shelter, and enclosure of persons, animals, or movable property of any kind. A B-1 license holder may supervise all or any part of the above including managing or directly or indirectly supervise any of the work being performed. The Dual Building Contractor license allows the scope of work permitted by the B-1 General Commercial Contractor and the General Residential Contractor license.

The first step in obtaining your Arizona contractor license is to determine what class of license you want. You will need to ensure you meet experience, education, and financial requirements. Once that is complete, you can start the application process and prepare for the exams. Arizona contractor license candidates are required to complete and pass the Arizona and Rules Training Course and Exam (SRE) for contractor licensing.

B-1 or B-2 General Commercial license applicants can elect to take either the NASCLA Accredited Examination for Commercial General Building Contractors or the AZ ROC General Commercial exam. Applicants must Pass NASCLA or PSI Building Contractor, complete the AZ Statutes and Rules Training Course and Exam (SRE) provided by the board and submit 4 years hands on and/or managerial experience.
