This course is made up of a detailed presentation that takes you through all the information you will need to pass the exam on your first try.

@HomePrep offers this seminar to prepare you for the Georgia Residential Contract Exam as well as the Business and Law Exam. This 2-Day seminar will guide you through highlighting and tabbing the associated exam books for fast and easy reference during the test. This package includes the seminar fee, all required reference books by license type, associated tabs and access to our online course for extra review. This course is taught by a construction industry expert with over 30 years’ practical experience in the construction trades.

How Do I Get My License?

  1. Purchase the Exam Prep Course — and then study!
  2. Pass the exam.
  3. Submit your application, licensing fee and proof of insurance.

Requirements To Get A License

  • Pre-approval from the state is required to sit for the examination.
  • Please note that the Georgia Business and Law exam is also required to be passed to obtain your contractor’s license.
  • Licensure will be required for the practice of contracting in Georgia for any job over $2,500.Financial Information:
  • BANK REFERENCE– Account must be in the name used when applying for the license.  If the account has not been open for at least 24 months, you must have a line of credit for $25,000.00.
  • If you have more than 3 employees you must have Workers Compensation Insurance.
  • $300,000.00 In GENERAL LIABILITY INSURANCE is also REQUIRED.Residential Basic – Residential only Experience:
  • Applicants must have 2 years of proven experience working as or be employed by a residential contractor, predominantly in the residential-basic category.
  • Other proven experience deemed substantially similar by the licensing board may be accepted.
  • Individual must have had significant responsibility for the successful performance and completion of at least 2 projects falling within the Residential Basic category in the 2-years preceding the application.
  • Applicants must be a minimum of 21 years old and must complete and sign authorization for background check, including criminal history.

Exam Details

  • The fee for the exam is $72.
  • The Georgia Residential Basic Contractor Exam has 80 questions and a time limit of 180 minutes.
  • A 70% is required to pass.
  • Topics on the exam include sitework, footings, and foundation; concrete and concrete reinforcement; masonry; carpentry; metals; roofing; associated trades; general code and construction knowledge; and OSHA safety.
  • To schedule your exam, you must first obtain pre-approval by submitting experience and education documentation to PSI. To register for the exam, contact PSI at 1-800-733-9267.
