Jordan Smith is the CEO and Founder of Smith House Company, a design+build firm  based in Austin, Texas. He learned to build and weld while working on the farm with his grandad, and after earning a degree in Welding and Materials Engineering, he spent the next 10 years working in the heavy construction building everything from robots to ships to offshore oil rigs before transitioning to residential construction. After spending a couple of years working with industry leading builders in Austin, Jordan and his wife Veronica struck out on their own to form Smith House Co.

Essential Hand Tools – Welcome to the course! Professional builder Jordan Smith gives an overview of the hand tools covered in this training, and talks through his everyday carry from notebook to utility knife.

Personal Protective Equipment – Jordan gives an overview of the key pieces of personal protective equipment you need on the job site, and some insider tips for using them. Learn about safety glasses, hard hats, and how to put in ear plugs the right way.

Measuring Tools – From tape measures to angle finders to laser levels and spirit levels, learn the tools you need to measure spaces and materials.

Marking Tools – The chalk line is an essential tool for guiding cuts and laying out foundations, floors, and more. Learn how to use a chalk line correctly.

Hammering & Pulling – Hammers, sledgehammers, and pry bars, oh my! Jordan compares different types of hammers and tools for driving fasteners, as well as tools for prying them back out again.

Fastening With Wrenches & Screwdrivers – Jordan provides an overview of the types of screwdrivers and wrenches you’ll want to keep nearby on the job.
