    N. Amaya - Virginia
  • Very informative, the reading out loud was a great help. I could work at my own pace. It’s the way to go for continuing education!

Requirements To Obtain a Tennessee Mechanical Contractor License (TN CMC)

A Tennessee contractor’s license is required first prior to bidding, contracting or offering a price to perform work. A contractor’s license is required in Tennessee (TN) prior to bidding any project that exceeds $25,000. Subcontractors who perform work in electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and HVAC projects exceeding $25,000 are also required to be licensed.

Per the process conducted through the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance, the first step to get a contractor’s license is to pass two exams: a Business & Law exam and a trade exam (for various classifications). On the application, you must also specify the classification of license you are applying for.  Here is a complete list of license classifications and exams needed.

Please view our Application Processing Services to streamline this process.
