Requirements To Obtain a Texas Maintenance Electrician License

In order to apply for a Maintenance Electrician license, you must have at least 8,000 hours of on-the-job training under the supervision of a Master or Maintenance Electrician.

The Texas Maintenance Electrician Exam is an open book 180-minute exam that requires a 70% score to pass. To use your time efficiently in the exam, it is extremely helpful to prepare in-depth and have your book tabbed and highlighted prior to the exam. Highlighting, tabs and written notes in reference materials are permitted prior to arriving at the test site. However, during the exam you may not write in the reference materials.

Exam Overview

The Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation (TDLR) has contracted with PSI Services LLC (PSI) to deliver its examinations. Upon TDLR approval of eligibility, you will receive an email confirmation with instructions for scheduling an appointment to take the examination. (If you have not provided an email address, you will receive a postcard via U.S. Mail with this information). You are allowed to test unlimited through your eligibility period.
