Course Details

This course teaches medical terminology from an anatomical approach where root terms are divided by each body system. The origin, a combined form, and an example of non-medical everyday usage is provided for each root term.

Word Associations are provided as a learning tool. Unusual and interesting information is provided in regards to each term. Root terms are combined with prefixes and suffixes as your learning will culminate in the interpretation of several paragraphs of medical notes. If you’ve ever had trouble memorizing medical terms, this course (and approach) is for you!

Objectives

Lesson 1

Identify common root and musculoskeletal root terms and their meanings.

Lesson 2

Discern and memorize integumentary and digestive root terms and their meanings.

Lesson 3

Identify and memorize cardiovascular and respiratory root terms and their meanings.

Lesson 4

Recognize and commit to memory urinary and reproductive root terms and their meanings.

Lesson 5

Identify and memorize neurosensory root terms and their meanings, and review current terms to date by recognizing their use in sentences.

Lesson 6

Recall the common medical prefixes and suffixes A through H.

Lesson 7

Recall the common medical prefixes and suffixes I through O.

Lesson 8

Recall the common medical prefixes and suffixes P through Z.

Lesson 9

Identify the meaning of medical prefixes and suffixes used for color and abbreviations of common medical titles.

Lesson 10

Recall common medical abbreviations A through R.

Lesson 11

Recount medical abbreviations S through W, and recite abbreviations of hospital areas, laboratory tests, chemistries, and medical symbols.

Lesson 12

Recount common directional terms and word combinations.
