Acoustical Treatments, Air Conditioning Work, Ventilation, Refrigeration and Ductwork, Driveways, Parking Areas, Etc. Requirements to Obtaining Your License

  • Please note that the Business and Law examination is required for licensure in the State of Louisiana.
  • The applicant needs to provide the board with a financial statement, current to within 12 months of the date of filing, prepared by an independent auditor and signed by the applicant and auditor before a notary public, stating the assets of the applicant, to be used by the board to determine the financial responsibility of the applicant to perform work on a construction undertaking, the entire cost of which is $50,000 or more. Such assets shall include a net worth of at least $10,000.
  • All contractors bidding or performing work on a commercial project where the cost of which equals $50,000.00 or more must be licensed under the classification “Building Contactor”.
  • All applicants who desire to become licensed as a building contractor need to make an application to the board need to state the classification of work the applicant desires to perform from a list of major classifications.

Continuing Education

There are no requirements for continuing education as of this time.

Reciprocity Agreement

There are formal written reciprocal agreements with the States of Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Texas, Utah as well as the North Carolina Electrical Examiners’ Board. The Business and Law examination cannot be waived for out-of-state contractors. However, reciprocity is not automatic, applications will be considered on an individual basis.
