About This License
The South General Roofing license covers the installation and repair of roofs and roof decking on commercial, industrial, and institutional structures requiring materials that form a water-tight and weather-resistant surface. This license is limited to shingles, clay and concrete tile, slate, wood-shake roofing, metal roofing, and asphalt-rolled roofing.
Requirements to Obtaining Your License
- Group 1 – Allows for jobs of $50,000 or less, applicants must showing a net worth of at least $10,000.
- Group 2 – Allows for jobs of $200,000 or less, applicants must show a net worth of at least $40,000.
- Group 3 – Allows for jobs of $500,000 or less, applicants must submit show a net worth of at least $100,000.
- Group 4 – Allows for jobs of $1,500,000 or less, applicants must show a net worth of at least $175,000.
- Group 5 – There are no financial limits on the size of job allowed, applicants must submit show a net worth of at least $250,000.
- Please note that the Business Management and Law Exam must be passed in addition to the trade exam.
- 2 years of experience is required.

Exam Details
- 63 questions and a time limit of 3 hours minutes.
- A score of 70% is needed to pass.
- $75 exam fee.
- Exam topics to include: Safety (5 Items), Roofing – Substrate (8 Items), Roofing – Steep (22 Items), Roofing – Metal Panel (6 Items), Roofing – Metal Flashing (8 Items), Roofing Repairs (4 Items), Roofing – Elastomeric (6 Items) and Roofing – Bituminous Built-Up Roofing Systems (6 Items).

Exam Review Education
We offer review for the South Carolina Roofing Contractor Exam through a home study/ online course format. The program takes you through each one of the reference books that the exam is based on showing you exactly what to highlight.
