About This License

Contractor (D-1)

The holder of this license may perform only work limited to the installation, repair, replacement, maintenance or alteration of any warm air, air conditioning and refrigeration system, including necessary piping for the conveyance of heating or cooling media and associated pumping equipment. This license does not include the installation or servicing of oil burners of any size. The requirements to qualify for this license examination shall be two (2) years as a properly licensed journeyperson or equivalent experience and training.

Journeyperson (D-2)

The holder of this license may perform only work limited to the installation, repair, replacement, maintenance or alteration of any warm air, air conditioning and refrigeration system, including necessary piping for conveyance of heating or cooling media and associated pumping equipment and only while in the employ of a contractor licensed for such work. This license does not cover the installation or servicing of oil burners of any size. The requirements to qualify for this license examination shall be the completion of a registered apprenticeship program or equivalent experience and training

Requirements to Obtaining Your License

Contractor

  • Please note the Business and Law Examination is required for ALL Contractor licenses.
  • The requirements to quallify for this license examination shall be two-years as a properly licensed journeyperson or equivalent experience and training.

Journeyman

  • Journeyman applicants must have completed an apprenticeship program.

Applying For Your License

The application fee for a Contractor’s license is $75.00 while the application fee for a journeyperson license is $45.00.

  • Pre-approval is required.
  • 70 questions.
  • 3 hours.
  • 70% to pass.
  • Topics on examination include Insulation, Hangers and Supports, Sound, Vibration and Seismic Control, Heating and Cooling Principles, Refrigerants and Refrigeration, Testing, Adjusting and Balancing, Controls, Machine Room, A/C and Heat Pump Equipment, Furnaces and Heaters, Chimneys, Flues and Vents, Combustion Air, Fuel Gas Systems, Ducts, Chillers, Ventilation and Exhaust, Safety, and Load Calculations. /LI>
  • The fee for the exam is $65
  • Please note that the Connecticut Business and Law exam is also required to be passed if you are wanting to obtain the contractor’s license.

Exam Review Education

We offer review for the Connecticut Limited Warm Air, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration exam through online exam review. The program takes you through each one of the reference books that the exam is based on showing you exactly what to highlight.
