In the state of Maine, general construction contractors are not regulated by the state but on the local level through cities, counties, and municipalities. However, for all home construction and home improvement projects over $3,000, Maine law requires a written contract and there may be local licensing requirements so make sure to check these before you begin work. Additionally, plumbing and electrical work is regulated at the state level in Maine. To apply for a license, please contact Maine Office of Licensing and Registration at 1-207-624-8603.
