    Texas Maintenance Electrician Exam Prep

    In order to apply for a Maintenance Electrician license, you must have at least 8,000 hours of on-the-job training under the supervision of a Master or Maintenance Electrician. This course includes highlighting guides, practice tests, theory, calculations, instructor support and test taking tips/strategies. The highlighting guides and quizzes are designed to familiarize students with testing materials. We do not provide students with exact test questions, as the state does not release this information.

About This License

Maintenance Electricians work under the general supervision of a Master Electrician, on behalf of an electrical contractor, to replace or repair existing electrical appurtenances, apparatus, equipment, machinery or controls used in connection with the use of electrical energy in, on, outside or attached to a building, residence, structure, property or premises.

Requirements to Obtaining Your License

Applicants must obtain pre-approval from the state licensing board before testing.

There are no state minimum financial requirements at this time.

Applicants with any criminal offense conviction (felony or misdemeanor) must complete a criminal history questionnaire.

8,000 hours of on-the-job training under the supervision of a master electrician or a maintenance electrician.

Must pass the maintenance electrician examination.

Exam Details

  • The exam has 60 questions and a time limit of 180 minutes.
  • A 70% is required to pass.
  • Topics on the exam include Definitions, Calculations, Theory, and Plans, Electrical Services, Service Equipment, and Separately Derived Systems, Electrical Feeders, Branch Circuit Calculations and Conductors, Electrical Wiring Methods and Electrical Materials, Electrical Equipment and Devices, Motors and Generators, Electrical Control Devices and Disconnecting Means, Special Occupancies, Equipment, and Conditions.

Exam Review Education
