About This License
“Master Refrigeration Installer” means a person, firm, or corporation engaged in or carrying on the business of, or holding themselves out to the public as engaged in the business of or the contracting to construct, install, repair, or service air conditioning equipment, freezer equipment, or cooler equipment, including industrial, commercial, institutional, and heavy residential installations.
“Journeyman Refrigeration Installer” means a workman qualified and competent in the trade of refrigeration installing and who is employed by a registered and licensed “Master Refrigeration Installer.”
“Apprentice Refrigeration Installer” means a workman registered in an approved Apprentice Training Program.
Requirements to Obtaining Your License

Apply through the The city of Evansville’s Building Commission.
Exam Details
Unlimited Refrigeration Exam
- Contact Ivy Tech at (812) 429-1418 to schedule and pay required fee for the test.
- 80 questions.
- 3 hours.
- 75% required to pass.
- Topics include HARV general, commercial refrigeration systems, controls, ventilation, piping and tubing, fuel gas, box construction, and safety.
Limited Refrigeration Exam
- Contact Ivy Tech at (812) 429-1418 to schedule and pay required fee for the test.
- 80 questions.
- 3 hours.
- 70% required to pass.
- Topics include HARV general, refrigeration systems, controls, ventilation, piping and tubing, insulation, and safety.
