    In the state of Texas, applicants must obtain pre-approval from the state licensing board before testing and complete 4,000 hours of on-the-job training under the supervision of a Master Electrician or Residential Wireman. This course includes highlighting guides, practice tests, theory, calculations, instructor support and test-taking tips/strategies. The highlighting guides and quizzes are designed to familiarize students with testing materials. We do not provide students with exact test questions, as the state does not release this information.

Requirements To Complete

About This License

Residential Wireman works under the general supervision of a Master Electrician, on behalf of an electrical contractor or employing government entity to perform electrical work that is limited to electrical installations in single-family or multi-family dwellings not exceeding four stories.

Requirements to Obtaining Your License

There are no state minimum financial requirements at this time.

Applicants with any criminal offense conviction (felony or misdemeanor) must complete a criminal history questionnaire.

Applicants must obtain pre-approval from the state licensing board before testing.

Exam Details

  • The exam has 80 questions and a time limit of 240 minutes.
  • A 70% is required to pass.
  • Topics on the exam include Definitions and Theory, Electrical Services and Service Equipment, Electrical Feeders, Branch Circuit Calculations and Conductors, Electrical Wiring Methods and Electrical Materials, Electrical Equipment and Devices, Motors and Generators, Special Occupancies, Renewable Energy, Electrical Control Devices and Disconnecting Means.
