About the California Cabinet, Millwork, and Finish Carpentry License
A cabinet, millwork and finish carpentry contractor makes cabinets, cases, sashes, doors, trims, nonbearing partitions and other items of “finish carpentry” by cutting, surfacing, joining, gluing and fabricating wood or other products to provide a functional surface. This contractor also places, erects, and finishes such cabinets and millwork in structures.

The Cabinet, Millwork and Finish Carpentry (C-6) Examination is divided into five major sections:
1. Planning and Estimating (20%)
• Planning cabinetry and millwork projects
• Estimating cabinetry and millwork projects
2. Cabinetry and Millwork Fabrication (24%)
• Milling cabinetry and millwork
• Assembling cabinetry and millwork
• Storing cabinetry and millwork
• Transporting cabinetry and millwork
3. Cabinet Installation (25%)
• Demolishing old cabinets
• Identifying possible hazardous materials
• Job site preparation
• Installing cabinets
• Finishing cabinets
4. Millwork Installation (16%)
• Installing millwork
• Installing stairs and mantels
• Refacing cabinets and millwork
• Installing windows and doors
5. Worker and Job Site Safety (15%)
• Personnel safety
• Job site safety
• Recycling and disposing of materials

Exam Overview
This is a multiple-choice examination with four choices per question. Examination questions are written to provide only one BEST answer. Some questions require mathematical computation. A calculator will be provided. There is no penalty for guessing. If you are unsure about a particular question, it is better to try to answer the question than to leave the question blank. Plenty of time is provided to answer all examination questions, so be sure to read each question and its four choices completely and carefully before selecting the BEST possible answer to the question.
The Cabinet and Millwork Manual briefly covers the major topics of the State exam including Veneer, Abrasives, Adhesives, Wood Joints, and Doors. The manual also includes brief summaries of some of the Woodworking Institute of California’s Standards as well as a Glossary. The last section of the Cabinet and Millwork Manual covers the Health and Safety Orders.
The Math Review Lecture covers the math formulas in the first part of the Cabinet and Millwork manual. The Cabinet and Millwork lecture covers the topics addressed in the manual specific to the C-6 trade exam. The Health and Safety Lecture covers the Health and Safety Orders at the end of the Cabinet and Millwork manual.
Please be sure that you study all of the practice exams. It is important to read and understand each question, and read every word of the explanations. It is necessary to learn the principles behind the question because the State’s questions may be worded differently.
The C-6 Cabinet and Millwork Contractor’s Computer-Assisted Practice Tests are available online using an activation page with a unique code. The program presents questions one at a time, automatically scores the exam, presents the student with a grade, and lists each question answered incorrectly along with the correct answer.
