About the California Flooring and Floor Covering License
A flooring and floor covering contractor prepares any surface for the installation of flooring and floor coverings, and installs carpet, resilient sheet goods, resilient tile, wood floors and flooring (including the finishing and repairing thereof), and any other materials established as flooring and floor covering material, except ceramic tile.

The Flooring and Floor Covering (C-15) Examination is divided into seven major sections:
1. Planning and Estimating (20%)
• Evaluating plans and specifications
• Evaluating material characteristics
• Performing job-related calculations
• Evaluating job site readiness
2. Subfloor Evaluation, Preparation, and Material Acclimation (24%)
• Removing existing flooring
• Evaluating and preparing subfloor for installation
• Testing subfloor for moisture
• Installing underlayments
• Material acclimation
3. Carpet Installation (10%)
• Installing tack strip, cushions, and trim
• Cutting and laying out carpet
• Seaming and sealing carpet
• Installing carpet
• Installing and replacing moldings, etc.
4. Resilient and Rubber Flooring Installation (13%)
• Cutting and/or laying out sheet goods for installation
• Using adhesives
• Rolling and sealing sheet goods
• Installing laminate, trim, and transitions
5. Laminate Flooring Installation (8%)
• Cutting and laying out laminates
• Installing laminate, trim, and transitions
6. Wood Flooring Installation (11%)
• Performing moisture tests
• Cutting and laying out wood
• Installing wood flooring and trim
• Filling and sanding wood
• Finishing wood
7. Safety (14%)
• Applying personal safety procedures
• Applying job safety procedures
• Operating tools and equipment safely
• Safe handling and disposal of products

The Flooring and Floor Covering Manual briefly covers the major topics of the State exam including Plans and Estimating, Jobsite Preparation, Carpet, Resilient Coverings, Laminate Floors, and Hardwood Floors. The Flooring and Floor Covering Manual also contains the Health and Safety Orders and Flooring and Floor Covering Review Questions.
The Math Review Lecture explains the math formulas in the first part of the Flooring and Floor Covering Manual. The Flooring and Floor Covering lecture covers the topics addressed in the manual specific to the C-15 trade exam. The Health and Safety Lecture covers the Health and Safety Orders at the end of the Flooring and Floor Covering manual. The Flooring and Floor Covering Review Questions Lecture covers the Flooring and Floor Covering Review Questions in the back of the manual.
Please be sure that you study all of the practice exams. It is important to read and understand each question, and read every word of the explanations. It is necessary to learn the principles behind the question because the State’s questions may be worded differently.
The C-15 Flooring and Floor Covering Contractor’s Computer-Assisted Practice Tests are supplied on a computer disk which will load a software program on the student’s computer. The program presents questions one at a time, automatically scores the exam, presents the student with a grade, and lists each question answered incorrectly along with the correct answer.
