To be eligible to sit for an examination, an applicant must first complete a state of Iowa Examination Candidate Application. Journeyperson exam candidates must have either (1) completed a minimum of 42 months in a Dept. of Labor registered apprenticeship program; or (2) have at least four years of experience prior to January 1, 2010. Master exam candidates must have either (1) been previously licensed as a journeyperson and have two years of journeyperson work experience in the applicable discipline; or (2) been previously licensed as master in the applicable discipline in another state or local jurisdiction.
