Requirements To Obtain a Kentucky Journeyman/Master HVAC Mechanical License
Candidates are required to pass two examinations, one on Business and Law and one covering technical HVAC
knowledge and codes, for licensure. License permits contract holder to contract and engage in the business and
practice of HVAC work within the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

The Kentucky Journeyman/Master HVAC Mechanical Contractor Exam is an open book 3 hour (Journeyman), 4 hour (Master) exam that requires a 70% score to pass. To use your time efficiently in the exam, it is extremely helpful to prepare in-depth and have your book tabbed and highlighted prior to the exam. Highlighting, tabs and written notes in reference materials are permitted prior to arriving at the test site. However, during the exam you may not write in the reference materials.

HVAC licenses in Kentucky expire yearly on the last day of your birthday month. To renew, you must complete complete continuing education credits prior to the expiration date. Kentucky has no reciprocity agreements.
