Requirements to Fulfill Louisiana Residential Continuing Education – Business (6 Hours)
To maintain their license, residential building contractors in Louisiana must complete six hours of continuing education (CE) annually by a board-approved provider:
Completion date
- The CE must be completed by December 31st each year.
Certificate of completion
- Contractors must keep a copy of their certificate of completion for five years and be able to provide it to the board upon request.
Renewal cycle
- Licenses can be renewed for one, two, or three years, but CE must be completed each year within the renewal period.
Renewal application
- Renewal applications must be submitted online on the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors (.gov) website at least 60 days before the license expires.
Contractors who also hold a valid commercial license in one of the following classifications are exempt from the CE requirement:
- Building construction
- Highway, street, and bridge construction
- Heavy construction
- Municipal and public works construction
To renew their license, contractors must also: Keep their address current, Meet the insurance requirements, and Maintain their qualifying party.
