To renew a Michigan electrical license, you must complete continuing education (CE) requirements, including:
- Code update course: Complete a 15-hour code update course within one year of the National Electrical Code (NEC) being adopted in Michigan.
- License renewal deadline: The deadline to renew your license depends on the type of license you have:
- Journey and master electrician licenses: Expire on December 31st each year, but can be renewed until March 1st under special circumstances.
- Electrical contractor licenses: Expire on December 31st every 3 years.
- Registered electrical code official registration: Expire on September 16th every 3 years.
Total CE hours: Complete at least 15 hours of CE.
Sign specialist training: Sign specialists must complete 8 hours of code change training.
