Requirements to Fulfill Tennessee General Contractors Continuing Education (4 Hour)
General contractors in Tennessee must complete eight hours of continuing education every two years to maintain their license:
- When to complete
- The continuing education must be completed within 30 days of the license expiration date.
- Who can complete
- Only the Qualifying Agent (QA) on the contractor’s license can obtain the hours. The QA is the person who passed the residential trade exam.
- Where to take the course

- Failing to meet the continuing education requirements can result in penalties, including license suspension.
The number of continuing education hours required varies by license type. For example, electrical contractors must complete 16 hours every two years.
