You can select your course type using the filters below.
In the state of Massachusetts, general contractors must be licensed and registered. Different types of construction jobs call for different requirements such as:
- Home Improvement Contractor registration is needed to perform ordinary repairs to an existing property.
- For work on larger projects on existing properties, a Construction Supervisor License from the Office of Public Safety and Inspections is also required.
- Applicants can also apply for
- unrestricted license
- one- and two-family dwellings license
- specialty license
Additional requirements are proof of three years of experience in building construction or design, and you must pass a state exam. Contractors who build new homes or work on commercial buildings only are exempt.
Construction, electrical work, and plumbing work are regulated at the state level in Massachusetts. To apply for a construction supervisor license, please contact the Massachusetts State Board of Building Regulations at 1-617-727-7533. To apply for a plumbing or electrical license, please contact the Massachusetts Division of Professional Licensing at 617-727-3074. Please select the license/exam that you are interested in.
