Requirements to Fulfill New York Alcohol Training Awareness Program (ATAP)
New York has multiple continuing education requirements for alcohol-related credentials, including:
- Alcohol Training Awareness Program (ATAP): The New York State Liquor Authority recommends that anyone who sells or serves alcohol complete this program. The program teaches legal responsibilities and practical skills to avoid violations, such as preventing sales to minors.
- Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) credential: This credential must be renewed every three years by the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS). Renewal requirements include:
- 60 clock hours of continuing professional education related to addiction, behavioral health counseling, or prevention
- 6 hours of OASAS-approved ethics training
- Attestation of ethical conduct
- Application
- CPP-G credential: This credential requires 70 CE credit hours for renewal.
Continuing education can be completed through relevant training sessions, seminars, workshops, or in-service from an OASAS-approved provider. Approved providers include accredited colleges and universities, state, federal, or local government authorities, and nationally recognized professional organizations.
