Candidates must score 70% correct on a 80 question exam with 180 minutes of time allotted.

Candidates must apply for a CCB license within two years of passing the examination. In order to obtain your construction contractor license you must submit your completed CCB license application along with the licensing fee, score report and all other necessary documentation to the CCB.

Residential: Complete your 16 Hour Course, pass the state exam, register your Business name, corporation, or LLC with the state, obtain $20,000 CCB residential surety bond, $500,000 per occurrence General Liability Insurance, and if hiring employees, obtain Workers Compensation Insurance.

Commercial Level 1:Complete your 16 Hour Course, pass the state exam, have 8 years of experience, obtain $75,000 CCB Commercial surety bond and $2 million aggregate insurance and if hiring employees, obtain Workers Compensation Insurance.

Commercial Level 2:Complete your 16 Hour Course, pass the state exam, have 4 years of experience, obtain $20,000 CCB Commercial surety bond and $1 million aggregate insurance and if hiring employees, obtain Workers Compensation Insurance.

Residential Specialty: Complete your 16 Hour Course, pass the state exam,, obtain $15,000 residential surety bond, $300,000 per occurrence General Liability Insurance, and if hiring employees, obtain Workers Compensation Insurance.

​Oregon law requires contractors to carry general liability insurance. The minimum amount of the policy is determined by your license endorsement.

​​​Complete the 16-hour pre-license training and take the exam. Select the complete the training with At Home Prep. Once you have taken the training, you will be directed to take the test from your pre-license training provider.

File your corporation, LLC, and/or assumed business name. File with the Oregon Secretary of State, Corporation Division​. For more information about setting up your business, click here.

Submit a CCB surety bond in the required amount(s). Find the proper bond amount here​.

Provide proof of general liability in​surance in the required amount. Make sure it names the Construction Contractors Board as the Certificate Holder.

Obtain workers compensation insurance if you will be hiring employees. For more information about workers compensation, talk to an insurance agent, visit the Oregon Workers Compensation Division or call (503) 947-7810. Learn more about who is exempt and non-exempt​.

Obtain other employer account numbers. You may need state and federal ta​x numbers, for example. For information, contact the Oregon Department of Revenue​​​ at (503) 378-4988 or the Internal Revenue Service​ at 1-800-356-4222.

Candidates are responsible for bringing their own reference manual to the examination center. The reference manual may be highlighted, underlined, tabbed (with removable or permanent tabs), and/or indexed prior to the examination session. Handwritten notes are also allowed. Candidates are not permitted to bring in any additional loose papers with their approved reference.
