Requirements To Obtain a Texas Environmental Air A&B Contractor License
Applicants must be at least 18 years old and show proof of 48 months of practical experience in air conditioning and refrigeration work under the supervision of a licensed air conditioning and refrigeration contractor within the last 72 months.
Class A licenses must provide liability insurance in the amount of $300,000 and $600,000 for aggregate. Class B licenses must provide liability insurance in the amount of $100,000 and $200,000 for aggregate.
An air conditioning and refrigeration contractor license must be endorsed with one or both of the following endorsements: An environmental air conditioning endorsement; or a commercial refrigeration and process cooling or heating endorsement.

The Texas Environmental Air A&B Contractor Exam is an open book exam that requires a 70% score to pass. To use your time efficiently in the exam, it is extremely helpful to prepare in-depth and have your book tabbed and highlighted prior to the exam. Highlighting, tabs and written notes in reference materials are permitted prior to arriving at the test site. However, during the exam you may not write in the reference materials.
A Class A license entitles the license holder to engage in each type of air conditioning and refrigeration contracting that is endorsed on the license in relation to a system, a product, or equipment of any size or capacity.
A Class B license entitles the license holder to engage in each type of air conditioning and refrigeration contracting that is endorsed on the license in relation to a system, a product, or equipment of not more than 25 tons cooling capacity; or 1.5 million BTU’s per hour output heating capacity.
