In the state of Wisconsin, in order to obtain building permits to do general construction on one- or two-family dwellings, it is required that a Dwelling Contractor card and a Dwelling Contractor Qualifier card be obtained. Our state-approved initial training course consists of 200 graded questions that equal 12 hours of course credit.   • Complete Training: Complete 12 hours of state-mandated training on construction laws, codes, and business practices.
  • Pass an exam: Pass the exam after completing the training course
  • Apply for a license: Apply for a Dwelling Contractor Qualifier license after receiving your certification

    This was my first experience with required training for licensing in the state of Wisconsin. I found the material to be helpful and seems to be paced right to the 12hr timeframe so far. Like some others stated, one piece of feedback, I wish the website gave you the option of completing the required “quiz” questions for a particular topic, right after you completed the learning portion for that topic, vs having to complete all of learning sections and then taking all of the individual quiz’s. It would have made it more doable for me as I completing the training in my free time over the course of a week or so.

    I have received DQC training before and let my credential lapse so i took the training to reinstate as per WI requirements. The 12 hr course from another company was almost useless as far as practical application. The course from HomePrep was thorough and I feel such benefit I am hoping to have some of my employees take the course for the educational benefit. The only weakness I found was the during the courses there were questions asked relating to the material and I was required to pass them to pass that portion of the program. They were multiple choice; the problem was they weren't always clear of I should select the best answer, or if multiple answers were the correct choice so I sometimes selected what I thought was best only to find I failed the question because they were looking for more than 1 choice. The only rectification I could figure out was to start that portion of the course over and skim over the screens until I got to the question needing rectification. Also a few of the questions were looking for 1 answer and had more than 1 correct, maybe 1 was better in their opinion but they were too close and I felt that was subjective. I did get through those items and would recommend the course to anyone I can. one other item was the link I found was easier to start then some of the other providers on the internet.
