Description, benefits & features

The Full Mechanical Contractor Exam Review is made up of a detailed presentation that takes you through all the information you will need to pass the exam on your first try.

A Mechanical Contractors License in Tennessee covers classifications that include plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, process piping, boilers, gas piping, fire sprinklers, as well as others. This license is required in Tennessee when the project exceeds $25,000.  Anyone seeking to become a contractor in Tennessee is required to sit for two exams, business and law and the trade. To sit for the exam, you must be pre-approved by documenting 3 years of experience. Workers Compensation is required.

How Do I Get My License?

  1. Purchase the Exam Prep Course — and then study!
  2. Pass the exam.
  3. Submit your application, licensing fee and proof of insurance.

Requirements To Get A License

A Tennessee contractor’s license is required first prior to bidding, contracting or offering a price to perform work. A contractor’s license is required in Tennessee (TN) prior to bidding any project that exceeds $25,000. Subcontractors who perform work in electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and HVAC projects exceeding $25,000 are also required to be licensed.

Per the process conducted through the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance, the first step to get a contractors license is to pass two exams: a Business & Law exam and a trade exam (for various classifications). On the application, you must also specify the classification of license you are applying for.  Here is a complete list of license classifications and exams needed.
