Description, benefits & features

The Tennessee Residential Contractor Exam Review is made up of a detailed presentation that takes you through information you will need to pass the exam on your first try.

A Tennessee contractor’s license is required first prior to bidding, contracting or offering a price to perform work. A contractor’s license is required in Tennessee (TN) prior to bidding any project that exceeds $25,000. Subcontractors who perform work in electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and HVAC projects exceeding $25,000 are also required to be licensed.

Per the process conducted through the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance, the first step to get a contractors license is to pass two exams: a Business & Law exam and a trade exam (for various classifications). On the application, you must also specify the classification of license you are applying for.  Here is a complete list of license classifications and exams needed.

How Do I Get My License?

  1. Purchase the Exam Prep Course — and then study!
  2. Pass the exam.
  3. Submit your application, licensing fee and proof of insurance.

Requirements To Get A License

Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance  requires applicants to:

  • Pass the “Business and Law” exam, plus any required trade exam
  • Provide a financial statement
  • Provide a Reference Letter and Insurance
    • Verify Workers’ Comp Insurance is Covered for Working in Tennessee
  • Disclose your business structure — Corporations, LLCs, and Limited/General Partnerships must register with the Secretary of State.

    Everything I expected and MORE!

The course was easy to follow, and helped draw attention to the most important information needed. I was not expecting to have a math / calculations portion – what an added bonus! I don’t know what I would have done without this prep course.
