The apprentice license is designed for those seeking on-the-job training to obtain an electrical license. Requirements include:- 16 years of age for the electrical apprentice
- 18 years of age for an electrical sign apprentice
- There are no education requirements, but applicants must pass a criminal background check
- Applicants are required to submit an application to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation
- $20 dollar application fee and complete the required forms
- Apprentices are also required to provide proof of work under a licensed master electrician
- An apprentice Electrical license in Texas must be renewed every year
Journeyman License
Apprentices are eligible to take the electrician license exam after completing 8,000 hours of on-the-job training under a licensed master electrician. Additional requirements include:- $30 dollar application fee
- Pass the journeyman electrician license exam, which consists of 80 questions and the passing score is 70 percent
