To begin your journey to become an electrician in Florida you need to apply to an apprenticeship to become a licensed journeyman. Typically, this consists of at least 8,000 hours of work experience under the supervision of a master electrician, often after completing a Florida Department of Education approved 4-year apprenticeship program. Electrical apprentices who haven’t completed the approved program must have at least 12,000 hours of supervised work experience in its place.Certified Licenses
Certified licenses are statewide and allows you to work as a contractor anywhere in the state of Florida. Certified licenses types include;- Alarm System I

Certified Licenses Requirements
- A certified contractor must pass the two required state licensing examinations: business and finance and the trade.
- After you pass both parts of the examination you will need to complete the application (there is a minimal fee required) for an initial certified electrical or alarm contractor’s license.
- The initial certified licensure application requires you to provide proof of experience in the category for which you wish to become licensed as well as information on the business you wish to qualify.
- All initial certified licensure applications must be reviewed and approved by the Board at a regularly scheduled Board Meeting.
- Evidence of financial responsibility is also required; this may include a personal credit report, business credit report, business financial statements, and certification of status from the Department of State Division of Corporations.
Registered License
Registered licenses are limited to certain local jurisdictions and only allows you to work in the cities or counties where you have a competency card. Registered licenses include:- Alarm System I

Registered Licenses Requirements
- A certified contractor must pass an examination on the trade and provide proof of application.
- You will need to complete the application for initial registration
