How To Get Your Contractors License In Florida

If you’re working in the Florida construction industry and want to maximize your career opportunities, you’ll need a Florida Contractors License. By getting licensed, you will be able to take on bigger and more complex projects. You’ll also have a greater chance for more stable and steady income.

Per the state of Florida, there are a few qualifications you must meet to qualify for your contractors license. These include:

  • 18+ years of age
  • Valid SSN (Social Security Number) or ITIN (Individual Tax Payer Identification Number)
  • Proof of 4+ years of experience or vocational school (may be a combo of the two)
  • Proof of financial stability (credit report and recent financial statement)
  • Proof of liability insurance coverage (minimum of $300,000)

  • Certified – May work anywhere in the state.
  • Registered – May work only in the county/city of license.

How ToSteps to Get Your License

Step 1  – Prepare for your exam

All applicants must sit for two exams before applying: Business and Finance and your trade exam. To pass your exam on the first try, it’s crucial to buy the right online course or books.

Step 2 – Take Your Exam

State exams are administered by Professional Testing and you can register and apply online or call 407-264-0562 or email them at FLconstruction@proftesting.com.

Step 3 – Submit Your  Application

Once you’ve completed the exam and met the state requirements, it’s time to submit your application plus the appropriate licensing fees. Applications can be obtained from the Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board by calling 1-850-487-1395.

  • From May 1st of an EVEN YEAR through August 31st of an ODD YEAR is $249.
  • From September 1st of an ODD YEAR through April 30th of an EVEN YEAR is $309.
